John Wade found guilty of the murder of his wife, Martha,  by beating her with a Beetle (an implement made of iron and wood) so that she instantly died, on 10th March 1791 in the parish of Little Hormead.  He was ordered to be executed on Monday 1 August and afterwards his body to be dissected and anatomised.
